The Public Mood Ring is inspired by the common wearable “mood ring.” which originates from the 1970s in the US. These rings are believed to be capable of translating the bearer’s emotional condition into its changeable color hue. Some say they are historically some of the of the first examples of wearable interactive media. Mood Rings are made from encased thermotropic liquid crystals which like LCD monitors are extremely sensitive to body temperature. Common knowledge surrounding the ring usually identifies 7 primary moods with ring colors. More in depth accounts list another 7 secondary moods with attendant colorations. The Public Mood Ring uses the total 14 states (see below). One should note that many of these states are transitional, that is moving from one condition to another.
