Into the visual, technological, and cultural confluence
that forms the readymade webcam medium, artists have
begun to generate experimental
possibilities for networks of performance, remote viewing, institutional inquiry,
public intervention, and expanded audiences. In the process they explore the
potential and problematics of this
digital media. Through, text, visual documentation
and online internet examples, this lecture presentation will
historically enumerate
and evaluate this nascent medium from the perspective of recent art history,
criticism
and the surrounding institutions of technological culture. It will
survey the continuity and contribution to the
trajectories of video, performance
and electronic media, as well as a range of implications within psychoanalytic,
theoretical and popular cultural paradigms
