"Waterhole
Webcams"
Video
Installation
This work is an ongoing
series of inquiries,
observations,
interactions
and representations of
webcams centered
around bodies of water
around the world.
The work began with
a record of my
observations of the
"AfriCam" Website
at the Sabi Sands
Game Reserve
in
South Africa.
Frames taken from a
continuously
downloading
camera looking out
over an
animal waterhole
document the
unattended moments
of the landscape
as it changes with time.
The work expanded
to include
observations
and downloads of
different sites which
included a watersource
as their strange
attractor.
The work(s) also traces
the breakup of the
"live" image
into
its frame
level highlighting the
desire for a
techno-global vision
or spectacle
vs
the webcam's early
film-like rendition
of an uneventful
landscape.
The work was first presented at
