<<CONDUCTION
The wishing custom is explicitly invoked as a supplement to empirical
problem-solving. The wish takes up where practical utility leaves off.
The wish does not replace empirical reason, but resonates with the
Holocaust imperative of Warumverbot ("here there is no 'why,'" said of
the concentration camps). As a consultation, the wish draws upon the
fourth mode of inference--conduction (after abduction, deduction,
induction)--the reasoning specific to image. Image inference moves from
the given to the unknown along an associative chain of shapes: in this
case, the Y shape of the initial wishbone. Image inference opens
conceptual idea or eidos ("shape" as "topos" or topic) to any natural or
designed shape, as a possible category or place for gathering
heterogeneous bits of information into an order (chora). Thus the
wishbone Y traverses other semantic domains such as the Pythagorean Y,
dowsing (the Y-shaped dowsing rod), the switch in all its embodiments
(from railroad "frogs" to routers), the Y contrails formed by the
Challenger shuttle when it exploded, and bifurcation points in chaos.
The resulting (temporary) eidos may be used as an image classification
system (a metaphysics) to re-articulate reality. The consulting premise
is that what constitutes a "problem" (and possible solutions) is
determined by what a category system renders thinkable.>>

ok, I look forward to getting the leonardo piece (sounds really good).
also, here is a URL for a pic of a woman holding a dowsing rod (upside

didn't remove the text part).

I checked out your FRE site and particularly the wishing why.
I gave lee a contribution to the project
a xerox sheet which was pastered everywhere after 9/11
the nyc subway token symbol
slightly altered to read both as nyc and as a peace symb ol.
it is of course also a wishbone.

Re: 9-11 (fwd)

Hello Greg,

Thanks for the forward. Another addition to the my-sterious symbol system. Yes we did see the many peace signs around NYC After 911 and the Y configuration within has occurred to me. Attached to this e-mail is yet another uncanny screen image that dawned on me as and I have begun to spend some time at our barn and property in Western Mass. The barn is registered in town as the the "Music Barn." No doubt the architect consulted voodoo and could see the future. Let me know if you can't open the image and I will put it on the Web.

Feeling a bit behind in getting material to you since I have been detoured latey by multiple visits from family wanting to see our new abode. Monday and this week you should begin to see a flow of words and images as I can finally get back to work again. Really apologize if this holds you up at all but this move has taken more time than than Iever thought.

Until a few days hence...

Will

the peace Y is imposed on the mystorical popcycle quadrant. very
useful to think in these terms: we are plugged into a basic geometric
shape, read as an eidos, to be followed wherever it leads--the heuretic
flash of digital inference, conduction, leaping through the encyclopedia.

Re- barnscreens

Follow the Y it wherever it leads. An excellent idea. The wishing walk. This could well be the navigational answer to the myside of this choragraphy. Does it split or come together?

This Yeidos has so many resosances- it is musical after all. But they do seem to come from your haunting. Here are some more inferences upon/through the screen screens:

There are two barn screens side-by-side, suggesting the splitting, the doubling, the recognition/reoccurrence of this in that, the problem of singular apprehension, ideology, etc.

The lightning bolt, the eidos of your conduction theory, splits as it hits the earth, the upside down the Y as it crosses the horizontal bar on the barn screens. And so it is with the process of digital search as the first question always splits into more and more avenues. (This is the reflection of the digital binary.) At times we follow the path that seems to conduct the most, at others the choice is random.

And I remember you drew a voodun symbol of an upsidedown Y with a third line between the fork. I can't help thinking of the barn interior, its library and artifacts, holding, embodying so many references to the "noblility" of euro/greek literate tradition- deduction- and then, this method as it passes through the voodoo screen- methods of conduction. also ref. your idea of the Caribbean/Greek/Jew.

One more note,

<<leaping through the encyclopedia>> there a number older books in the library called "Cyclopedias" suggesting knowledge is less comprehensive and more ambulatory.

I'm thinking online.
