Revolving Bridges
Will Pappenheimer/DUMBO Arts Festival

In order to facilitate more movement and foot traffic across the East River, two of Manhattan's busiest bridges, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge, will be detached from either side and allowed to rotate smoothly 360°. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's prototype, automobiles and pedestrians can board the bridges from many vantage points but only in limited quantities. The twin bridge configuration also resembles the barnyard turnstile which regulates human and animal flow. Another metropolitan readjustment project from bUD (Bureau of Urban Devolution).
